Abstract

The development of settlements in the area of wetlands that are so rapid in
Palembang is the background of this paper. Palembang, with its vast flooded
water covered area has limitited options of land to meet the needs of housing for
its population. Landed House is more preferable by the people than residential
with stilt construction makes the developers reclaim or hoard wetland.
Uncontrolled development and less to environmental aspects make the principle
of conservation of wetlands and groundwater neglected. The purpose of this paper
is to look at possibility of optimizing the absorption of groundwater in reclaimed
wetland housing as well as groundwater conservation. Data collection was done
through observation in 2 (two) housing locations with the same reclaimed
wetland conditions. The paper concludes that the percentage of unbuilt green area
from the total land lot was very influential in optimizing the absorption of water
into the soil. Paper suggests that in order to optimize the absorption of
groundwater, policies that regulate the maximum area of built area on a lot so that
the water can be absorbed properly and there is no inundation.
